Richmond Hill Figure Skating Club (RHFSC) is a non-profit organization that has a long history of developing and training figure skaters. It has produced some world medalists and champion skaters in recent history. RHFSC is fully sanctioned by Skate Canada and has been serving our community since 1956. We provide accredited lessons to aspiring skaters of all ages and abilities at both the recreational and competitive levels.
For general inquiries, please contact the Club by email at administrator@rhfsc.on.ca
Please remember that CanSkate or Beginner Adult skaters up to and including Stage 5 are required to wear a skating helmet. For Pre-CanSkate sessions, a helmet with a FACE MASK/ or SHIELD is mandatory. The helmet must be CSA-approved hockey helmet. Bike and/or ski helmets are not acceptable and skaters will not be allowed on the ice without a skating helmet for safety reasons.

Dear RHFSC Members,
We are writing to inform you that, following a Board meeting held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, the Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to close the Richmond Hill Figure Skating Club AS OF APRIL 19TH 2026. (following the last day of the winter season) This decision was made solely for financial and operational reasons.
Like many non-profit sports organizations, our club was significantly impacted by COVID, during which substantial financial losses were incurred. While the club managed to continue operations with limited reserves, the 2024 CUPE strike resulted in an additional loss of approximately 20% of our skaters due to uncertainty around January 2025 programming. Unfortunately, many of those skaters did not return, and the operating deficit continued to grow. Based on our financial projections, the club would not be able to sustain operations into September 2026.
As a non-profit organization, RHFSC relies heavily on volunteers to manage day-to-day operations. The previous Board (2020–2024) made every possible effort to stabilize the club under extremely challenging circumstances. The current Board stepped in in late 2024 to continue operations; otherwise, the club would have closed nearly two years ago. Despite continued efforts, we have been unable to secure additional volunteer support. Without sufficient manpower and financial resources, we have unfortunately run out of viable options.
We want to reassure our members that there are sufficient funds to fully operate the remainder of the current season. All ice costs from January through April 2026 will be covered, all coaches will be paid in full, and our coaches remain committed to maintaining high-quality programming through the end of the season. Any remaining funds after obligations are met will be donated to another Skate Canada–registered non-profit club.
For the upcoming fall 2026 season, we have reached out to nearby Skate Canada clubs and will be sharing information as it becomes available to help families transition to a club that best suits their needs.
We understand this news is difficult, and we sincerely thank you for your support, trust, and commitment to RHFSC over the years. If you have any questions, please contact the club administrator by email.
With gratitude,
The RHFSC Board of Directors
Richmond Hill Figure Skating Club
